HP athletes head to state, boys basketball team enters postseason play

Two HPHS student-athletes, one wrestler and one swimmer, have qualified to compete in individual events at the state level, and the boys basketball team is poised to begin its state championship run.
HPHS senior Stephen Dieb placed second in the 145-lb. division at the UIL 6A Region II wrestling championship tournament Feb. 12-13, and he will advance to compete at the state tournament for the fourth consecutive year. 

Captain Ben Kroencke, who placed fifth in the 120-lb. weight class, and Junior Dorbah, who placed fifth at 195 lbs., will serve as alternates at the state tournament. Freshmen Aidan Conner and Keifer Wetzel both placed sixth in their division. 11 HP wrestlers qualified for the regional tournament, and seven made it to the semifinal round.

The UIL state wrestling tournament will be held Feb. 19-20 at the Berry Center in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD.
Sophomore swimmer Felix Van Cauwelaert took third place in both the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke at the UIL 6A Region III championship meet Feb. 6, and qualified to swim both events at the state championship meet Feb. 19-20 at the University of Texas. His 200 IM time of 1:51.78 broke a 21-year school record set in 1995.
The boys team placed third overall out of a field of 23 teams, and the girls team placed 11th. Click here for more individual results.
The Scots basketball team will launch its postseason run with a bidistrict round game against Irving MacArthur at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23 at Lewisville High School. Tickets will be available at the door, $5 for adults and $3 for students. HP will be the home team.
